Spoor Basses #001: progress thread

Ok, so yesterday my warmoth mahogany body blank arrived today and i am pleased, the wood is top notch, with a couple of small dents on the edges, which is fine. You can kind of tell where i drew the body outline, but it is there. My bandsaw needs a new blade at the moment, so right now i have this waiting to be cut. Afterwards, i will remark the centerline, along with the bridge placement and neck pocket and figure out what pickups i want to use (probably precision), then rout the whole thing, make a neck fiddle with electronics, etc, and presto, spoor basses #001

step one:get wood and trace design

Nice start. Next time try making a body template from MDF, then using it as a giant template, and rout the entire body out of the blank. I am a compete convery of this method. Will save you tons of time and cleanup work. MDF is easy to shape, and you can get better curves that way. Bandsaw cuts can be a pain to clean up, and tough to sand out without judicious rasping or an oscillating spindle sander.
