Spotify help

Let me start by saying that I have zero experience with Spotify. But after talking with the my bands' guitar player last night, I found out that we have a Spotify page.

I handle most of the social media stuff for the band and I know that I didn't start it. I believe that when we had our last cd made through Disk makers two years ago, we paid them to put it up there.

So here are my questions.......I am not sure how Spotify works in that if it's like say bandcamp where you upload your songs yourself and if you have an actual band account.

It looks like we've had over 2k plays for one song and over 1k for others and I haven't seen one dime from it. So I'd like to get control over the thing

Spotify Artists - Guide - Your Music

Link above explains things a bit. Sounds like you dont put your music on Spotify directly, but through a label or "aggregator." They then handle the payout of royalties to you(and take a cut), not Spotify.

I'm new to this too though so i may be misunderstanding things.

Sounds like Disk Makers is who owes you the money, so i would contact them. Who in the band setup the account with Disk Makers? That's likely who the money would be going to.

I recall reading an article about the comparative earnings of music streams on various online platforms. Couldn't find that article but the first thing I thought when I read your post was that 2K streams is not a whole lot in terms of earnings. I was thinking that to see any real cash you're talking at least one or two orders of magnitude more streams than you have now.

If this article is any guide, you guys *might* have $5 or $10 in the coffers waiting for you. I would imagine Spotify has a minimum threshold for payout and I wonder if Diskmakers takes a cut on your behalf!

Yea I don't expect to get a bunch of money out of the plays. But I just want to maintain some control over our material.

Thanks, Seanto that's the answer that I was looking for. I'll have to get in touch with diskmakers because I am almost certain that the account was set up with the old guitar player who left the band awhile back.

Glad to help! Hopefully you can sort it out. The old guitar player part may present an issue, but who knows.
