'Squarepusher' synth sounds???

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by Mike Flynn, Jun 30, 2004.

  1. Just caught the unbelievable Tom Jenkinson at a festival (Glastonbury) and he got some brilliant keyboard sounds, like a Fender Rhodes - or a synth-style version of a Rhodes, that to me sounded like he was using an octave pedal with both octaves on - low + high.

The weird thing was, was that he got chords to sustain and without them bleeding into each other like they normally do when you pitch-shift more than two notes at once (double/triple stops etc) - the only thing I can think of that would enable me to that would be a synth patch on the bass - are there any pedals out there that would do a similar job?

And does anyone know what pedals and stuff TJ uses in Squarepusher?

Basically I'm thinking about new, cool effects toys to buy....!

The new Boss octave stompbox is supposed to have polyphonic tracking. It's alleged to actually work.

    Tom's sound is:

Custom Warwick 6 string ->Eventide Harmonizer -> Moogerfooger Ring Mod -> Very expensive compresssor

But his fender jazz also has a GK pickup on it...

And he is also using A sony Viao with some sort of DSP effect program, as well as Reisin...

  4. Nice one fella - might have to look into the Evantide gear - prolly very pricey - and mmmm, a Warwick 6 eh? I have a 1991 Thumb 4 but a six is what I need next - thanks for all the info - I assume you're a fan? I was really impressed with his live show - innovative and weird - but very cool and groovy at the same time - the crowd loved it!

I haven't picked up Ultravisitor - in fact the only CD I have is Go Plastic. Am I missing out here?

Amoeba rules. Every time I'm in SF I'm in there for an hour at least.

Ultravisitor probably falls just short of Hard Normal Daddy, but it is brilliant. Terra Sync especially.

That's a cool story. "Kids I met your mom to Page 9 while perusing some Garth Brooks."
Even better would have been to have Fantomas as a wedding band.

and we tried to get fantomas to play our wedding, but mike didn't like our choice of cake. he can be a real butthead when it comes to cake.
