Been wanting to try a p bass. This is a Squire and I'm a new (really new) old dude student type. Would this be a good entry level bass to try?

I didn't even browse this thread originally because it said 20th Annv. model - assumed it wold be $$$$. What a killer deal!!

I think I've found the sound I was looking for. I'm having a blast with this thing.

In terms of overall quality and playability, there is a HUGE difference between the Squier Affinity series and the Squier Standard series. The Standard ($150-225) has a 1 3/4" true Fender size body and jazz neck. With a few hundred dollars it can be a serious player. Add a Fender high mass bridge ($55), Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound PJ set ($140), a new tone circuit, 1/4" knobs, and a professional setup. At this point, you're around the $400 mark and have blown past a Fender MIM bass costing twice as much.

Don't pay west coast prices for a Standard ($400 + Shipping). Look on Reverb, eBay, Music Go Round, etc. and you can get really good deals.

The tuners on a Standard are quite satisfactory, but add the Hipshot HB7 set ($145) and you're on top of a USA P bass . . . a fraction of the cost.
