Squier 40th Aniv P Bass

Yes. I have the red one, nice bass, love the satin finish and aged hardware look. It has a nice broken in feel about it. Mine had a few sharp fret ends and I added some screw springs so I could raise the pickups to Fender spec. Otherwise no issues and it sounds great stock. Definitely one of the best Squiers I've owned, second only to my CV 50's P.

I know it was too late to ask, mine should be here by Thursday.
Anyway, I used to have a cheap 2008 Squier P, sold it and got the player. Now when.I listen to the few recordings I did with the Squier
The notes come.out clearer and deeper, than the Fender.
Guess I'm trying to get back that sound with the new Squier.

Currently on my want it but don't need it list. I work at The House of Guitars in Rochester NY and it's my favorite bass in the store at the moment. You could spend a lot more and get way less. I highly approve!

The 40th Anniversary P vintage is my go
to P. I have a decent little budget collection, 43 basses. 2/3 of them are Squier, mostly CVs.

Love the necks on the 40th vintage P. It’s beefy but not chunky. Nice satin finish. Sounds good. IMO great bass.

My first intent was to up grade the hardware, pickups and electronics. After spending some time with, decided to change strings and leave it stock.

What strings did you get?
I choose DR HI BEAM, but.honestly bought them blind, just not to keep the factory ones.
Hope they are good. The bass is set to be delivered by Thursday.

I love my 40th Anniversary P. It's also my first P, so I don't have much reference. The neck is probably my favorite part, it's so comfy in my hands. Not super-big for a P neck and smooth as heck, love it. I totally modded it, and couldn't be happier. Not that anything was wrong with it stock. Got rid of the gold hardware and replaced with with some Hipshot tuners I had on hand, aged Surf Green paint job, Hipshot A-Style bridge (it barley fits under the bridge cover), Fralin P Pickups (stock), and cut a pickguard for it (a tiny bit wonky around the pickups lol). After reading some good reviews of the Fender 9050's I put on some on just to match the silks, and really like them. I like modding cheap(ish)-o's.

So yeah, enjoy the one you have coming! I like mine a lot.

I have the red Vintage version with Fender 9050L flats. Love this bass - everything about it. My eye has not wandered to other Ps since I got it.

Also have the Vintage J bass but it has major intonation issues that I haven't resolved. Almost unplayable honestly. Not sure if I should send it to another luthier to see if it can be improved or swap necks. But be aware that your new bass could need fret work. Both of mine needed to be leveled.

I found that string tree look taller than stock.

The stock tree is/was pretty tall. GOTOH RB30 tall string retainer was a perfect match.

I guess you needed to widen the nut slots, especially for the 95 A string.

I got a stratocaster from that series. Apart from the tuners and an unreasonably tight jack it is a great guitar. The strat comes with a gloss finish on the neck, though, which is not my personal favorite.

600 grit sandpaper, a mask and 5 minutes of work and you'll have a beautiful satin finish.

The stock strings are Fenders, made by D'Addario. They're not my personal favourites but they're good strings.
They're very different from the Hi-Beams so you will probably prefer one over the other and it won't necessarily be the DRs. Both are very good strings.

Make sure you follow the instructions when installing the Hi-Beams. These are round core strings and the wrapping will unravel from the core unless you crimp or bend the strings 90 degrees before cutting it. The crimp/bend will obviously need to be on the part of the string you install on the bass, not on the part you throw away after cutting. You can simply bend the strings where you would normally have to bend them anyway when inserting it into the tuner. Just make 100% sure you bend them at least 90 degrees BEFORE cutting. This should lock the wrapping to the core. Also, make sure you've measured the correct length needed for your bass before cutting.

If you're not sure about what lengths you'll need you can always use the stock strings for measurement. Just make sure you measure E vs E, A vs A and so on or they won't fit. Too long isn't a big deal. Too short and you're buying a new set...

Lots of people ruin their first set of Hi-Beams because they don't read or follow the instructions. At least DR include instructions these days. They most certainly did NOT when I purchased my first set of Hi-Beams back in the early 90s and guess what happened...
