This has been brought up before and I've been searching but the answers arent very clear. I would like to buy replacement pick ups for my squier 5 string p that I just bought and im curious to see if anyone knows what the options are. It seems the pick ups are too small for "standard" 5 string p ups and people suggested previously to go with a bartolini 4 string pick up with no pole pieces. Im in a classic rock type band right now but we play all kinds of stuff from funk to...well heavy music haha. I like to sound warm most of the time, lots of mids and lows but sometimes I like a mean bass tone with bite to it. Im scared if I get 4 string replacements that the low B wont pick up. Also if I had to route out the bass for a good 5 string replacement would everything still line up? Im kind of at a loss right now. I was looking at the seymour duncan 67/70 70/74 and those seem right up my alley. Any suggestions, Ill route if I have too its not a big deal. Are there any better solutions tho, such as a 5 string p up that fits directly in there and gives better low b definition

they didnt, but they did make a 5 string precision bass. It has "jazz" p ups. Not split, its just called a p bass cause it has a p bass body and neck
those are an odd-ball shape. I think they are the same length as a 4-string neck pickup, but the mounting tabs on the pickups have 4-string bridge pickup spacing. You might have clearance issues with the tabs...
I have one! The pickups are 3.625", both of them. I want new pickups for mine, too, as the stock pickups have terrible low-B output. I took it to a local shop and the guy said adjust the pickup height. Well, that didn't work, so now I'm patiently awaiting a viable, sub-$150 fix. Subscribed.
Correct. What he meant is asking for a split-coil pickup for a P-Bass with 5-string polepieces.
I just eyeballed it, but has anyone tried emg's yet. The string spacing seems narrow enough. I work 70hrs a week and the emg install is on my to do list.
as I mentioned, they are the same length as a standard 4-string Jazz neck pickup (3.6"), but the mounting tabs are like that of the bridge pickup (1.56" on center of the screw holes, compared to 1.495" of the std. Jazz 4 neck p/u mount tabs)
so this pickup, the Duncan SJB-5 hot stack (or similar), may fit, but minor clearancing would be necessary, especially for the bridge pickup. I've searched for replacement pickups for a Squier Active Jazz V (same issue, same pickups) and these are closest.

This is correct.
I use to have one of those. Your best bet is to get 2 normal bridge length (3.75") 5 string J pickups and route about 1/8" on both sides for the added length. The screw ears should line up though.
FWIW: I dropped some Nordstrand's in mine. It was a HUGE upgrade
Like most people say its a killer bass but the pick ups absolutly suck at picking the low b up. I definatly had and eye on the 5 string stack pickups but, would routing be nessisary? If so i'll probably get something else. If not it looks like i found my pick ups haha. Oh and thanks a lot for all the imput it was very helpful and maybe in the future someone else will run into the same problem. Now the soulutions are right here

These are alnico exposed-pole single coils, if you don't want to go with the hot-stacks I mentioned above.
The 67-70's are for standard Jazz V's
the 70/74's look like they might fit the squire with a bit of clearancing:

And for FYI, I had the 67/70 pickups in a passive Squier Affinity Jazz V, and I feel that these are AWESOME vintage-sounding pickups. Lots of midrange growl and great clarity. If I had another passive Jazz, I'd want these pickups in it again.
