Yes. The Talman is head and shoulders over either of the options you've mentioned.

What $200? You put it away somewhere safe, remember, so you could buy a bass, and it's far too early to break into your stash now. You're almost halfway to having a real choice. There's no $200.

No. But it takes about nine seconds to change it and if you're gigging with it you'd presumably want to be sure the battery isn't near depletion beforehand.

Specs on the X seem up to snuff...GFS is known for decent, budget friendly parts/kits/products...if you have that $200 burning a hole in your pocket and you MUST select from those... its 6 of one, half a dozen of the other...

I've been wanting to try an Xavier bass, so I'd probably go with that.

The Talman's are pretty good quality, but I don't like their neck. Probably because I prefer an Ibanez SR neck.

Speaking of that...in the $200 range you might also consider the GSR200

I am currently leaning on either the Affinity PJ, or a Talman TMB100, since it may have the better neck profile for my small hands.

Xavier: Fingerboard Radius- 9.5", 21 frets

Squier: Maple neck with “C”-shaped profile and 20 frets (9" radius) [I think, will someone confirm the 9".]

What basses have you played in the past that were most comfortable on the neck?

Precious few! A true Jazz profile is OK, and the Affinity is playable, but not as good or comfortable as the neck on the Squier Jaguar SS (but its the only thing I like about it).

Believe it or not, the neck on a Silvertone SS-LB11 is the best that I have encountered!

The Squier hands down. I'd probably look for a used Standard special or a VM though. Both should be common enough in used lists.
