Squier bullet bass, japan made, anyone?

I don't own one anymore but I played one for a while and regret selling it for sure. A great little bass, it did weigh a ton but I quite like that. For $400 I think you'll be getting a good deal.

Like with any bass, lots depends on condition and your playing needs and wants. That said, I have a black one that I purchased 8-9 years ago. I've gigged it and enjoy playing it. The pups are a little on the weak side, but unless your using a very low wattage amp, shouldn't be a problem. I also find them to be a little more on the mid/trebley side, but here again, may be just the sound you're looking for. I like a little more bottom, but with a good amp & EQ, you can take it where you like it. I got it pretty cheap in a pawn shop, but I've recently seen one in a pawn shop for 8 times the amount I paid for mine! :cool:

Sadly, the early 80's are now starting to be considered "vintage" for Fenders, so even MIJ stuff from that period is starting to command more money.

The MIJ Bullet Bass, the one with the tele style headstock was my first "good" bass. I bought it new back then. Good sounding basses with excellent necks. Mine was black.

$400 seems about right these days.

Yep, that one, with the tele style headstock. I dont know why someone said its weights a tone, actually is very light, very good condition. One piece maple neck, 3 piece basswood body, 2 tone sunburst, white guard (is there any way to find another color or to fit a Std P guard, with drilling?) and little ugly but powerfull pups :D

A standard P bass guard wouldn't work even if you drilled (from my memory I don't think so at least). There are a few companies that make replacement guards. I had a tort guard made for a cream US Bullet a few years back.

My favorite Bullet was the US model with the walnut stripe on the back.

I have an 83 or 84 MIJ Bullet Bass that I was thinking about trading in at GC for a newer Squier. The salesman told me to hold on to the bass as it is better than most American Fenders in quality. I will agree that the pups are a little weak and I may upgrade them (keeping all of the orignal electronics intact) if I can find the right pickguard.

But, if I get offered the right price I would consider selling this bass. And no, I am not trying to sell my bass.

I remember playing them when they were new and I loved them. They had a great feel and sound but it seems I was one of the few who felt this way. But then that was a different era when people in the USA where biased towards American made instruments and thought Asian made instruments were inherently crap... OK, maybe not so different an era.

As George Santayana stated: "Those who cannot remember the past..."
