I like them both. Both lines have seriously bumped up the quality and consistency in recent years.

Go with the price point that suits your wallet. Work with a retailer that offers a solid return policy in the outside chance you get a lemon.

I build my own basses from parts from the internet. MIM and Squier CV are equal to me. The parts are interchangeable (correct word..?): I put a Classic Vibe neck on a MIM body. Who can tell the difference? Maybe the Mexican body consists of 3 parts instead of 2, as the USA body's do. Who cares anyway? I once saw a The Who tribute, the bass guy was really awesome... his weapon? An old and bashed up Squier Affinity P-bass! It is all in the fingers, my friends....
