Squier CV P bass review

I know there have been other reviews but here is mine. I recieved mine yesterday and I've had about an hour playing time with it. First of all the color is alot brighter than I thought it would be (Fiesta Red). It's somewhere between pink and red. Pictures don't really give an good description. Fit and Finish is good for the most part. The plastic on the pickguard is a pain to get off but not impossible.

I really enjoy the neck on this instrument. I'm used to a J neck but this is comfortable. The spacing didn't bother me much. As far as sound (yeah I know the most important part). It sounds like a P bass should. The tone knob doesn't change the sound as drastically as others I've tried. I may later get a 62 Pup, CTS pots, capacitor and switch craft jack. IMO thats where they saved money on this bass. I've heard from other tb members the capacitor change helps the most. Now the big question is what set of flats should I put on it.

It's a Fender, so maybe Fender flats?
That's what I would do.

Fender 9050M flats on every Squier/Fender bass I've owned, including my current Squier VM P. :D

Anyway, glad you're liking the CV. I considered it when I was buying my VM; both played and sounded great, but I decided that I liked the aesthetics of the VM better. YMMV.

I just put DiAddario XL Chromes on a Squier CV Precision I purchased about a week ago...they are very smooth and mellow if that's what you're looking for from flatwounds. I have another Squier with DiMarzio DP127 pickups and Rotosound RS77 flatwounds. They have much more bite than the DiAddarios.

I haven't decided on any mods to the Squier CV as of yet...I may swap out the stock pickups with a set of Seymour Duncan SDB-1 pickups and change pots, but can't decide if it really is worth the effort given the good things I've read concerning the stock Alcino Pickups.

I'm also curious about the capacitor value...I haven't opened mine up yet, but have read the cap is a .068uF. It seems to have a good response, but may not be as bright as some are used to given .047uF is probably a more standard value. I play classic country, so I'm always looking for good low-end thump and it seems the Squier CV fits the bill nicely.
