Squier Jag--anyone have one ?

Stopped briefly at GC and saw a really attractive Jaguar--black with matching headstock and that brown/red swirly (tortoise ?) pickguard. It had a P/J set up and I was blown away when I saw it was a Squier.

I did not get to try it thru an amp. Anyone have one ? how is it ?

Note---a few years ago I was in the "bass snob" category--you know....2-3 grand per bass. Well, the recession hit and I ended up selling ALL my high end basses and now play my "back up 4" ---a G&L Trib SB2---and LOVE IT.

I have a new appreciation for lesser priced basses. While my next purchase will eventually be in the $1000 range, I might consider this Jag as well.

For the price, and no actives, plus the mix of pickups one precision and one jazz, I'm curious to play one. I love my jag, but the actives that come with it can be a bear to find the right sound, and don't move too much lol or you can easily change your sound settings mid song....!

I will be trying a Squier Jag hopefully within a week, I'm disappointed by the Squier 77, (I hope the squier jag neck isn't made in indonesia, or it will bow too..every weather change strongly...)

(I hope the neck is made in china...anyone know?)

Looked at one at the local GC last week, and the stamp on the back of the headstock said it was made in Indonesia. Overall looked pretty nice for $300 and handled well - didn't play it through an amp. One of the stacked knobs was very loose - QC, Fender?

I've played one at the local GC. Felt solid, it had nice action (probably set up but who cares)- no buzzing. Sounded very good, pickups were really pretty decent. I liked it. Was very tempted to pick it up.

I'm never good at telling people about stuff unless they have specific questions, so if anything comes up, let me know and I'll see if I can remember what it was like.

I went to see Switchfoot Friday night and the band The Almost opened for them. The bass player for The Almost played a Squier Jag the whole night. :bassist: It was pretty cool! The band had two guitar players and the lead singer played guitar also. The strange thing to me was they all three played Telecasters. I had never seen that before.
