Hello, I'm new in this forum, in january I bought a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass from guitar center, in my opinion it is a good bass, but I want to make it some upgrades, like the tuners, I do a some bends and it go out of tune. I'm looking for a full set of tuners, but I don't know which brand (fender, hipshot, wilkinson, etc) is better value for money. it have active (bass boost) PJ pickups, I'm looking for the EMG PJ, are those good for the price? And I want to upgrade the bridge for a Hi Mass bridge (fender or hipshot) Do you really hear the difference, change the tone?
Because of the worm gear inside of a tuner, it's really unusual for bending the guitar string to cause the gears inside of them to move, even if they're really cheap. I'm not saying you shouldn't upgrade them if you want to, but it sounds like you have a different problem going on. Have you recently put new strings on the bass? Have you checked the nut and bridge saddles to make sure that the strings are not binding in there?
That could be the issue. It could be that you haven't stretched out your strings. It could be that you need to set the witness points. It could be that they weren't installed properly. I can't say for sure that it's the strings but that's the first thing I would check.
