Tried searching this stuff but since I can't search on "JV" I sorta got lost.

So, got me a JV Precision, first series with the big Fender and small Squier on the headstock.

1- I noticed the pups do not seem to be waxed, I heard the JV's got nitro on the pups. Is this true? I'm also asking cause I still have some doubts about the seller and this would/could prove it's for real or not.

2- Other thing is one of the knobs is missing and I cannot find a good replacement. The pot is split shaft. Who knows where to find a matching dome knob? It seems easy enough but I can't find it...

3- Last but not least. Do these basses have any known weaknesses? Don't get me wrong, it sounds totally cool and vintage but I did hear the electronic parts good be better. I do believe this beauty is a keeper so I do want to get all the tone out of it. Swapping the pots and stuff might be a good idea that wouldn't be unreversable.

Any JV experts out there?

Thanks a bunch, Bob.

Check out the site listed below for tons of great JV Squier info. I am no expert but whoever runs that site sure knows a ton about them.

1. Some of the JV Squiers had US electronics and some did not from my understanding. That makes this question a little difficult to answer but I do think it is highly likely they nitro'd them. This does not however mean that they would not still wax them. I do find it a little odd that they were not waxed.

2. Is it a flat top reissue P knob? If so then it should be very similar to what the Fullerton reissues used. I got a Fullerton knob from someone a few weeks back and since it is only one it looks out of place with my brand new one. I would be happy to let it go for free (just send me whatever for shipping) if you are interested. It is nickle and has got that aged nickle look to it. Definitely not really shiny. If that does not work for you try Angela Instruments.

3. While newer imports sometime suffer from poor quality electronics those early Japanese JV Squiers should be really rock solid unless someone switched out the original parts.
