Squier Pro Tone - Is this a Pro Tone?

I have one. I used to have two. That bass looks OK. Pro Tones were made by Cort in Korea. They used Mighty Mite pickups. Mine had gold hardware.

The mods are reasonable and would make the bass better. I have replaced the pickups on mine and put in a preamp. The body and neck are fantastic, although the neck is wide...pretty much P bass spacing. Wide, but thin enough front to back to be comfortable.

He might have had to widen the pickup cavities to fit the SD's in. Upon a closer look, it appears the SD's fit, but are narrow>I can't tell if he narrowed the neck at all. The stock pickguard is fairly thin...only two layers and it appears he still has the stock pickguard on it, altered to accommodate the wider pickup and extra controls.

I like the looks of his bass.

I had one as well but the serial on my 1997 was different than what the seller gave me (6 #s starting with the #6) - I can't remember how many numbers my serial had in total. The sequence on mine if memory serves me correct had the manufacture date in the beginning. Is it possible this body colour/pickguard was made after the 90's as well? Looks like the head does say "Pro Tone" but I did not confirm this with the seller yet. I am not aware of any other years for the Pro Tones. The build quality of my 97 was excellent IMO.

Don't know if this will help. Mine has 14 screws holding the pick guard. It also has SD SPB 2's. The neck is real nice. With these pup's..well...it's really nice sounding.
