Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass Cracked?

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My 1 year old daughter knocked my bass ober while it was in its stand (thanks Zoe). The bass is only a few months old and does not leave my house. There is no other abuse it has ever recieved except falling over. The cracks albeit are small, but just curious if thats something that should happen. Also, I was wondering if this is something that will get worse over time. Any help will be appreciated.

It looks like a finish crack, not an wood crack. Hard to tell from the pics... I have seen plenty of guitars/basses with similar cracks. I would say that if it still plays ok, then no real damage was done. But as always, I may be wrong.

From what it shows in the pics, the cracks are in the finish only.
I have a Squire VM 70's P-bass and it's never been knocked over or dropped.... YET... But I have cracks in the finish in exactly the same spots. In my case, I attribute the cracks to different climate conditions from where the bass was made and where I live. There's better than a 99% probability that you won't have any more problems with those cracks. But, if I were you, I'd keep yer bass in the case when, no offense, your daughter is loose... That would seriously cut down on the chances of any more damage to yer bass. Hope this helps to ease yer mind some. )-D

Very common place for a crack in the finish. I have a couple basses with similar cracks, including my VM. Don't worry about it.

I had one small crack in the same place (top) on a VM Amber P-bass that I ordered online, but ended up returning (for a replacement). It did look like the crack was in the finish, rather than the wood.

However, the reason I returned it was because -- after a few days -- I noticed a crack in the headstock (coming from the nut between the A and D string, right above the truss rod hole, but slightly angled toward the A string.)

Also, the finish on the fretboard looked... well, hard to describe, but... "blistery" in spots, and nonexistent in others; mostly over fret marker dots.


If the crack had been the only issue, I personally wouldn't have been too worried, but the other problems were more serious.
The replacement I got was fine, though... So far... knock on wood.

Any instrument with a bolt on neck can/will sustain this type of damage to the pocket if knocked over. If it plays good still and intonation is still ok, dont worry about it. Cosmetic damage.

Yeah, I've seen that on ton of basses that continued to play fine. I wouldn't worry.
