I've been looking to get a tele-style guitar for a low price. I have narrowed it down to these 2:

Squier Vintage Modified Tele Custom:

and the...

Squier Classic Vibe Tele Custom:

The VM is considerably cheaper than the CV but is it worth paying the extra cash for the CV?

You mean,

Those aren't 6 string basses?

The CV hands down. I've played and owned both for a time (at the same time) - I'd stick to the Classic Vibe telecaster. If you want something with Humbuckers that's not too expensive, shoot for an Epiphone Les Paul Standard or any of those Ibanez guitars. If you're looking for the classic Tele sound, then CV all the way, but don't expect the signature twang on the Squier VM humbucker model - it's clearly absent.
