Squier VM fretless bass 3rd string (A string) problem

Hey guys I have some brand new flat wound rotosound strings on my new fretless bass but there's always an annoying string buzz with that string in particular and no others. I have tried adjusting it's height but no joy T. T

It's the only thing that saddens me besides that the bass rocks and the rest is flawless

I had a Peavey Grind, fretted though, that was doing the same thing. I narrowed it down to the tuner. It was just barley loose. Did not notice at first until I tried to track down the buzz/rattle. Tightened it and all was good. Not sure if this maybe what you got going on but worth checking out.

Lightly press down the A string between the nut and the tuning peg. Does this make the problem go away? If so, it is a very common problem on fender-style basses, with 2 possible solutions: 1) buy a replacement string tree that covers the A, D, and G strings (instead of just the D and G); 2) next time you change strings, cut the A string longer so it has more downward wraps on the tuning peg.
