Squier VM Telecaster Bass (Humbucker) help

Hi Talkbass! I acquired a Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Bass Special (with stock pickups) a few months ago when suffering from a particularly severe episode of GAS. I love the sound, it's dark and powerful and works very well for the type of music that I play (classic rock/country rock).

The only thing is that sometimes the pickup (stock reissue Fender WHRB bass) is too muddy. I know that's to be expected for a bass like this, but there are times where I'd like to get a little more clarity. I'd like some advice on what to do EQ wise or pedal wise, and if anyone has tried alternate WHRB bass pickups (like the Curtis Novak or Creamery ones) and knows if they are better, I'd appreciate that advice as well. Thanks!
