Squire 70' Jazz Bass, question about effects...

Hey everyone, like i said i have a 70's modified jazz bass and am still new to bass. I have the acoustic B200h head and B115 cabinet. the head has an effect in and out. what would be the proper way to hook up a boss chromatic tuner and a MXR M80? Is there a benefit to the way that they are chained?

Also, i just bought the MXR M80 and so far its great, but i have heard a lot of great things with the EHX English Muff'n on the bass. Would the eq on the Muff'n work as well as the M80? please help out a newb!

Oh and i've also heard a lot of good about the EBS compressor pedal, would it make sense for me to get one, and where would it go in the chain? THANKSSSSSSS!!

U CAN of coz plug 'em in thru the FX loop. I've not tried this yest- I'm always happy going the normal way... Bass> FX > AMP. Try 'em both out! The Muffin IS s'posed to be good. As is the new tech 21 VT bass. I got a Humphrey audio BAdder Bass Monkey -a modded Digitech tube OD- & this works great 4 basss!!!!!!!

For the pedals that you have, your best bet is just to run your bass into them, into your amp. The effect loop on an amp is mainly used for rackmounted effects and processors that function with a line-level signal, which is much higher than what your bass puts out.

As for the English Muff'n, I haven't tried one, but I've heard it's great. It will be a totally different flavor of drive than your M-80, so I wouldn't say that it's "better" or "worse."

Compressors are very fickle things. You can use them very effectively, or you can totally kill your tone with them. If you're just starting out on effects, I wouldn't mess with a compressor until you know what you're looking for with them. Bongomania here on TB has a site with TONS of compressor reviews. If you can find that, look them over and see what you think will work for you.

I would suggest placing the tuner before you M80. Sometimes placing a tuner after an effect/box can have a negative impact on the tuners ability to "lock-in" to the tone and make it more difficult to tune. Also having the tuner in your chain allows you to tune silently.

That's normally only the case if the M-80 is turned on (especially if distortion is engaged). When turned off, it should have no impact on tuning.
