Squire Vintage Modified Jazz Bass

Based on my own personal experiences with MIA Fenders and Squiers over the last couple of years I would be more hesitant about buying a MIA Fender than a Squier these days to be honest. I'm absolutely shocked by the junk I've gotten from the American Original and American Professional series. Either they have no QC or they simply don't care if they ship out basses with serious issues and flaws.

Squiers can be a bit hit-or-miss too of course but at least they're $200 rather than $2000.

My 70s VMJV has beautiful wood and finishing, and I like the pickups.
But the tuning machines were pretty bad - filings started coming off the gears and one of the keys kept falling off. If I didn't live over an hour from the store, I'd have put a warranty claim in. Instead, I put a set of Hipshot Ultralights in.
Truss rod nut head came partially stripped too - had to replace that as well.
Pretty happy with it now though.

Believe it or not, the stock pickup on VM77J sound juicy and growl compare to my previous CV60J(sweet tone but less growl), even the 2019 CV60J (dry sounding).

I swap the stock pup with new Dimarzio Area J on my VM77J last week.........then I put back the stock pup after few days......

You might find one in the classifieds with a little luck. I don't think they're too rare.

Not to derail the thread here but the player and special series are much better instruments than squiers. Though whether or not they justify the price difference to you certainly is subjective. Love the CV and VM series though. Both great for the price.

I prefer string through body and the beefier bridge and better tuners as stated previously with a MIA Standard.

I’m willing to forgo that with the lower cost of the Squier.

I currently have a 2014 MIA Deluxe Precision, a 2014 MIA Limited Edition Sandblasted Precision which is based on a Special. The Special isn’t string through and the tuners don’t have the same ratio as the deluxe.

I know this is weird, but I’m looking at price point versus features

Plus I’m looking for black and maple without black blocks

If you see anything feel free to post a link like @twinjet did.

I have one just like your 1st pic. Pics do not do these things justice. And yes, the black body w/maple board and "pearl" blocks make for a great looking J.
The only thing "wrong" with it are some factory buff marks and a tone pot that has an effective range only 10-15% of it's travel. I've named it so I guess it's a keeper.

I own 2 player Pbass in 2018 and 2019.
Both pbass quailty just get match my 2012 Squier CV60P. But the maple fingerboard has sharp angle and sharp fret end.
Beside my current VM77J, I own CV50P in past and been play both CV70P and MF Sig P . All maple fretboard on Squier bass has smoother edge compare to Fender Player maple fretboard bass.

Before I get the VM77J, I am licking with Fender Player J in butter cream. Sadly the maple fretboard on player J has same issue as maple fretboard player P I own.

The real nice mim Fender bass are goes to Classic and Roadworn series.
