Why does it sound so good? I would buy it but it doen't come in white so Im going to try to get the same sound out of a mim or mia, Besides the pickup brand is the placement the same as the 70's jazz? Is that what makes it sound so good or is the placement the same as standard.

Does the VM have the 70s style positions (with bridge PU closer to the bridge) or standard like what it is now?
Yep.
Machines: You can use brown Kiwi shoe polish on the neck and fingerboard to yellow it up so it's not pale or gray. Many people do this with newer Fenders (especially guitarists). I did it with a MIM Strat and it worked like a charm. It's simple too. Take the neck off and, in sections, rub the Kiwi shoe polish on, let sit for a few minutes, rub off. Continue to next section. Repeat as desired.

I've actually never played an MIM that comes close to it. I suppose I got very lucky, it was set up perfectly straight out of the box. The fit and finish is incredible, especially considering the price, the tone is excellent and very useable (I am getting a really nice thick burpy sound right now). The playability is top class too, it blows my old fretless out of the water in every aspect. Quite frankly, it's my favourite new bass of 2006. I was impressed with the fretted VM basses, but this one takes the cake.
My MIM is definitely better! It plays better (it looks better to, IMO
) and sounds more "Jaco fretless-ish", if you know what I mean.
I have been thinking about getting a VMS Jazz fretted. I love the blocks and binding, but already have a MIA fretted Jazz maple fb ash body, and a MIM Fretless Jazz. Don't really have a reason to get another Jazz bass, plus if I did, it would be the Geddy.

Thanks for that. I have a MIM, so I won't get a VM. I was thinking about it as a backup or maybe getting the Fretless VM and the VM P and switching the necks so I have a fretless P. Probably not worth it though.
