Squire VM Jag Bass Special Mods???

I'm new to the whole idea of modding your instruments, so bear with me guys. I'm looking to modify my squire vm jag bass special (idk if they could've added more nomenclature if they tried). Preferably I wanna change the pups out. Was looking at some SD Qp's for the swap of the P pup. Main question is, is the only thing that's "active" in them the bass boost, or are the pups themselves powered by the 9v as well?? Little help here would be great. I'm grasping in the dark

Hey, I'm currently doing the same. Swapped out the pups... Is yours a p/j? If so I'd recommend a dimarzio p/j set... They get a really good review on TB and I think they sound phenominal. As for other mod ideas I've got a fretless neck on mine and I've debated on adding a high mass bridge and getting a black pickguard to get the black on black look with an ebony board... It's not really a squire anymore. It's just some players bass.

Anyway, I'd just say start with new pups and my suggestion is the dimarzios... Keep me posted!
