squishy sound on the e string while overdriving and distorting?

posted this on the stoner/doom area, but i haven't gotten any input, so...

been getting some overdrive and or pedal distortion squishyness from the mesa d180 tube amp on the e string of multiple basses, it's pretty prominent on the fretted B, hoping since the clean tone is normal thus far i won't have to worry about things until after the halloween show, anybody know anything about this sort of thing happening?

You've had the amp done time, giving it a good workout, so my suspicions are your tubes have had their day, but it's not clear from your question if it's originating in the amp.

that's probably the case, i'm going to play the halloween show clean and then get it looked at
