"Stain Type" Clear Coat?

Hi All,
I live in the windy and dusty southwest. The conditions are not good for spraying a clear finish. I've sanded and stained a body and am wondering.....Is there a good "stain type" gloss or satin finish that can be applied like stain, brushed on and wiped off?

Look into tung oil- although it won't be completely clear, IME. I think you can wipe on polyurethane as well.

Most dyes that I know of, could be mixed with a lacquer, or if you don't mind gradual yellowing, schallac.
Wipe on poly will do it, like previously mentioned.
