Hey, I'm a HUGE Stand Up fan and have been for decades. Anyone else around here a Stand Up comedy fan?

Who's your favorite comedian?

What's your favorite bit?

(Keep the TB rules in mind regarding profanity, politics, etc. before posting quotes)

The list of comics I like is probably too long to post here. There's something that I find I like from pretty much every comic out there. :D

YouTube links are a good idea too. :hyper:

I love too much stand up comedy classic to new school

Hedberg to Attel to Rickles to Newhart to Carlin to Regan and back again.

I just saw a special from a newer comic named Arj Barker that I thought was really clever stuff, like Demetri Martin in a way.

Can't stand Joe Rogan / Carlos Mencia stuff nor can I stomach Dane Cook and the over the top but just no point comedy. Make it gross, make it cerebral, but at least make a point.

Lots of good names in there! Madigan is awesome! Black, Leary, and Carlin are pretty freakin' hilarious too.
I've been getting into some of the newer guys (or newer to me) like Japser Redd and some others.

One I recently heard that killed me was a bit Ted Alexandro did on fast food when he said,
"I think ALL the meals at Taco Bell should be called #2" :D

You have to see Doug Stanhope's No Refunds. Because it is the most extreme piece of comedy I have ever seen. You got to see it with an open mind, and be willing to take some jokes that are in bad taste to put it lightly, but nonetheless he is funny.

I like him.

Louis C.K. is pretty hilarious. Can't repeat most of his bits here, but he's got a great one about all the amazing technology we have now, yet all anyone does is complain about it.

+1 Bill Hicks owns all.

I've taken **** for my love of Joe Rogan (you know who you are!). I shall do so again.

I saw Brian Posehn for the 6th or 7th time 2-3 weeks ago at Cobbs in SF. He's always great, especially since he had his kid.

I've seen too many to list, but loved Mitch Hedberg, Patton Oswald, Aziz Ansari, Zack Galiafankis, and Michael Ian Black was great, despite having a string of terrible TV shows over the last fifteen years.

Oh! Oh! And Arj Barker did a 2hr set and absolutely KILLED! He is not to be missed. Seriously one of the best shows ever.

I tend to hit Cobbs once a month or so. The Punchline in SF doesn't get a lot of great acts, and I don't much like the seating there. There's a couple of random places in the east bay, but not much (Norm MacDonald at the San Jose Improv was pretty cool, and Doug Benson at... eh... somewhere in Dublin... good show; tiny venue).

Loves me some stand up, even small local gigs can often be quite funny (you do get some terrible ones though).

I'd agree with most of the names here.

Quite like John Bishop's stuff too.

While more spoken word than stand up, Henry Rollins can be pretty damned funny (and a very angry/ranty).


And from watching recorded stand ups:

Eddie Murphy, back in the day was spectacular.

Surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet, but I thought Richard Pryor was brilliant.
