Starting up on Bass - few curious Qs

Hello everyone
I am starting up learning the bass
I have been on hiadus from music for quiet a while
I used to play [full length] violin

I purchased a Warwick Rockbass Corvette 4str (pretty sure its active v.) and awaiting its delivery (Trans-blue)
I have always appreciated the sound/appeal of the 'Wicks [Pics of Bass will be posted upon arrival/opening]
I will be playing through Preamp/DI to computer - Cabinet plans will be another time (MUCH later)

I would've gone more extreme for a bass, but I do not have the play-confidence/MONEY to just jump to a Stingray, Rick [Hah!!] or some other gorgeous/sophisticated bass

Besides, need to start with something not too ridic until feel ready for them real boutiques

Now, questions regarding manipulating the sound of a 'Wick:
I love the funk/jazz off it, so I'd be teasing with old-Incubus, The Roots and others
But I like to be able to approach more rock oriented sound as well (TOOL, Interpol, Audioslave, ...)
I am not sure if 'Wick can be tweaked alone for this, use of pedal(s), or working combination of the two

After saying that:
How would the 'Wick handle in this scenario?
Has anyone w/ a 'Wick tried tinkering to match these kind of bands?

Hello everyone...

How would the 'Wick handle in this scenario?
Has anyone w/ a 'Wick tried tinkering to match these kind of bands?

Greetings,

I can't be specific as the bands you're into ain't my kind of thing, plus I'm (personally) not a fan of Warwicks - nothing wrong with them, they've got their own thing going on & they just don't feel right in my hands.

However... Can you play Rock on a Warwick? How about a fretless Warwick?

'course ya can.
