Double Bass Stat B revisited

played a quartet gig last night with just the single Stat B into my amp with my little bass, and man that sounded so fat and nice and sat just right under the band and was no trouble and needed no eq. Just plugged it in simply and played. This time with the Stat B I have had several gigs of good and none of bad...maybe I finally got the install right.
I am really loving it and I think it sounds much more natural on my bass than the Yamahiko.

I've used the bass a couple of times on gigs since my last post. The Stat B sounded quite good blended with my Wilson on the first one. Then last night, same room and group of musicians I just used the Wilson alone. Both ways sound fine but I did find myself missing the blended Stat B sometimes. I'll likely keep favoring my Wilson as my go to. It's just so easy, pretty much plug and play. But it's nice to have the Schertler as a viable alternate. I've had it for years and never used it much so it's good to have it back in service again.

yesterday I did a double...decided to put back on the Stat B (E side single) and mix it with the Yamahiko into the Redeye and forgo all tube stuff and just went straight into the Focus. It was sounding SOOO good....about halfway thru the first set I looked down and noticed that I had stepped on the cord to the Yamahiko and pulled it out a little from the jack so it was not in the mix. Played the rest of the night like that and was totally happy. Waited for the inevitable Stat B problems to arise but they never did. Both trio gigs sounded utterly fabulous with just the Stat B. Whaddya know.

So the Redeye powered the Stat?

Nope, used the Stat preamp into the Redeye...

I love stumbling into relevant posts on TB! I have been playing a Schertler Stat B for almost 30 years and have never had a problem with it. Some minor refit adjustments to tweak the tone now and again and she seems very happy. I get a lot of compliments on my pickup sound. Stat B through the vintage pre-amp (well original 30 year old pre-amp) and through Walter Woods MI-100-8. Sweet.

Bump, Hi, just wanted to share this demo of the my bass with a stat b to stat pre to uad apollo for anyone else thinking of buying one. I think they are amazing, excuse the terrible playing. Important to note that I have not installed according to Schertler's instructions. I wanted to test the mic by shaving off a wee bit of cork with a Shinto rasp and pretty much just popping it in there without fussing about it too much. My bass is from Laurence Dixon in Herne Hill, London bought in the pandemic.
It wasn't a fancy one, one that is good enough because that is what I asked Laurence to sell me, not a starter, that I will want to upgrade immediately, something good enough.
It's not how my bass sounds acoustically exactly, and how could it with a small electret mic, but it's really great for live, more than exceeds my expectations.
