Stephen Colbert roasts Bush... classic.

I actually didn't care for large segments of his delivery. But when he gave a line well, or when it was just a rally good line, or the few times that it was a really good line AND he delivered it well...that was awesome.

[snip] "...rearranging the deck chairs on the HIndenburg."[/snip] <<< Huh? Huh?... Oh Come on, people that was genius! If you don't laugh I'm going to belly dance. And trust me. It's every bit as ugly as you are afraid it will be.

i finally saw the video. holy wow. whoever said big balls wasn't kidding.

i think there a couple of stretches that were over the top or a little awkward, but the rest was brilliant!

keep in mind, in most other settings the audience would have been howling. here they were looking shocked half the time, and a lot of the older crony types were just looking bewildered. long moments of polite chuckling and crickets chirping can make any comedy routine feel flat.

But anyway, power to colbert. Let's wish him well before he disappears into the Potomack.

And I would submit that, for many folks, whether you find his routine funny or not has a lot to do with whether or not you agree with his comments.

Not in my case. I agreed with most of what he said, I think Bush is a total douchebag, and the worst president I've ever seen. In spite of this, I found Coulbert one of the unfunniest people I've ever seen attempt comedy. For me, he turned what should have been a roast - the point of which should have been to make everyone laugh - into scathing political commentary. Even though I believe that W. deserved just about every last barb hurled in his direction, I also believe that a roast is not the place for that.

In short, it is very possible to find the whole routine unfunny even when you agree with the points made.

I enjoyed the part when he welcomed China's president, and said "thanks be to your great country, you make our Happy meals possible." :D
Not verbatim, but you can remember how it went. :)
The only part I didn't like was when he showed the video of him being the White House Spokesman or whatever...not really funny at all.

fortunately, that's partitioned into the third youtube video, so we can just not watch it. :bassist:

Colbert's delivery was off for a number of reasons. First, it hasn't been that long since he's had his own show. I've been watching it pretty regularly, and the early shows were just OK... but lately, the Colber' Repor' is hitting its stride. But playing in your own studio to a friendly audience is a helluva lot different than throwing sharp darts at the POTUS just five feet from the POTUS. (Or for being MC of the Oscars, for that matter).

As for the material: about 50% was hiliarious, brilliant, or both. If Colbert had thrown out the other 50%, I'd give him an A+. But taken as a whole, I give him a B-... extra credit for the brass cojones!

i love CSPAN.

they do an awesome service for the country, and yet no one takes notice. kinda ironic that this little bit of internet popularity will start giving people a reason to tune in.

heck, i started tuning in, when they started showing british parliament on sunday nights. you can watch the lawmaking in action, and good lord, they're feisty! i mean they give guff right to the prime minister's face, and he spits right back! its like "Yo Momma" for polictians. :p

did you know they even have a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]!? psuedo public programming rocks!!
