Looks like totally legit SBMM SUB Ray4, but it’s not US made. You’re thinking about the EBMM SUB, which was a different thing altogether. What you’ve got there is not a fake, but a bass produced by Praxis Instruments in Asia under license from Ernie Ball. If the seller has represented it as a US-made ‘95 SUB, however, he/she is either misinformed or willfully misrepresenting it.

1995??????
No way. Also, that is NOT made in America.
The Sterling by Musicman (SBMM) SUB series only started production in 2012 or 2013. I bought these basses when they first came out, (ended up buying 4). These were inexpensive and made in Indonesia and later China.
That's what the bass you're planning to buy is.
I also have and still own one of the Ernie Ball Musicman (EBMM) Ray basses which is made in the US.
The headstock looks like this and the neck is painted black too. The never made a body in that finish, all of them were painted and with a textured finish.

This is a Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray 4. They list for $299 brand new at Guitar Center, Musician’s Friend, Reverb, eBay, etc. just type that in the search in any of those sites. This is actually an older first edition model where the preamp had some problems with being “too hot” and distorting the output a little.

This is NOT a USA Musicman. This is the cheapest model Stingray made. Do not pay US prices for this bass! Below is a link to the GC page. You can select the Walnut stain (the finish of the bass in the OP) from the drop down menu.

+100, A 1995 SUB Sterling is about as real as a 1945 Fender Precision. This is my American SUB Sterling:

THX guys a lot for the info.
We just don't want you to get ripped off.

How much was the seller charging for this? If it was selling for dirt cheap, it wouldn't be too bad however, I don't see a serial number on it which would make it harder to re-sell. Also it's the first gen Sterling SUB - some had issues with the preamp being too "hot". These were on the ones made in Indonesia, this was later corrected when production shifted to China.

But it has an American flag
lol...if it were only that easy.

Hi again. Found this other bass on sale, seller is asking USD350. Think is a sterling ray24ca, but can’t find any info about the color or the year of the bass (black with maple neck). Hope you can help me to take the right decision.

thx a lot.

This is a Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray. Not a Ray 24ca. A CA is a slab body (no contours). This is the lowest price model of the SBMM line. This is the EXACT SAME bass I posted a link to in post #4 above (for $299 brand new with a return policy).

If you really want one, I’d recommend just buying new from GC, Musicians friend, eBay, Reverb, or any other reputable dealer. People keep listing used Basses above their value new and trying to scam you. Just buy a new one.
