Steve Swallow

Really? I’d swear he was using a copper pick when I saw him.
Then again, I saw him over 20 years ago, so I could be totally misremembering.

Ya know what, I may be wrong :(
I thought it was a felt covered metal pick. But I dredged that up from my faulty memory and can't find confirmation now.

I saw him back then as well, one of the duet tours with Carla. But I wasn't paying attention to the pick.

Apologies to all for the confusion.

Steve Swallow is one of very few jazz double bassists that switched from double bass to bass guitar. The other player that comes to mind is Max Bennett. There is a certain snobbery that exists among some double bassists with respect to bass guitars - pork chops they call them. Double bass is a beautiful instrument, but so is the bass guitar. They are just different. I for one am delighted that Jaco’s double bass fell apart because of humidity and that he then focused on fretless bass guitar.
