I would also recommend a separate amp and cab, for a few reasons:
1. More sound possibilities becuase you can choose your own head unit and cab.
2. Ready for a band situation.
3. If it sounds better (or you think it sounds better, at least), then you're more apt to play!
I can't stand the little combo at my house, and it makes practicing annoying. I plug into my main cab at our practice space, and its so fun, I don't want to put it down!
