Although, I didn't have any luck (after a quick search) finding those Big Bends G String Cleaning Wipes that the guy referred to...

yeah i was saying i would use the micro fibre cloth for general cleaning (like when not playing) AND use during the set, i guess i did'nt make the separation clear enough

haha It's all good, man. That's what I've been doing, though, wiping it between shows as well as during, between songs (when I can/have time). Apparently I wasn't clear enough. My apologies.

make sure your hands are always washed right before you pick it up

This I make a point to always do, just to clean as much of the natural oils off of my hands as possible before picking up my bass. Great reminder, though. Thanks!

All this talk of sanding down the neck... Is that really something you should be doing to your bass except as a last resort? Perhaps I'm overreacting but I'd rather not take sand paper to any part of my guitar; that's just my gut reaction.

..I suppose aesthetically it wouldn't really matter since it'd be the back of the neck, but still...I love my bass(es).

I have the same problem. It wasn't until this time, now it is, and really takes my playing back. Tonight was a show and my fingers was horrible sticky. I have some GHS FastFret at home, but last time I bought Elixir strings and it is unnecceserly to use. However, it would be useful, because it can make slippy the strings. I read your article posted above about why to avoid to use GHS, but I couldn't understand, my English is not too perfect and the text was a bit difficult for me. Can someone summarize for me what is that article talking about? In a nutshell.

I read about other tips about baby powder and baby wipes. How d'you use them? Just pour the powder on my hands, shake the surplus off and start to play? Or put it on the guitar neck? I wouldn't do that with pleasure, the white powder looks horrible on dark brown fingerboard and black body. And baby powder doesn't stick on the strings?

What do you use the baby wipes for? Cleaning the strings or your hands and fingers? For my experience my hand will be more sticky after I use wipe.

400 grit+wetsanding worked really really well for me.

I've lightly buffed the back of a neck with 0000 steel wool. Deglossed the finish well enough.

But the OP said the whole bass was feeling sticky, so this might not be what he needs.
