Still waiting for the Ampeg BA300 and BA600

Have you seen these yet. They were announced at NAMM in January. They come in 2x10 and 1x15 configurations. The BA300 is 300 watts and the BA600 is well 600 watts. They both have tube pre-amp and a solid state preamp (2 channels). The heaviest is 60 pounds (BA600 2x10).

Think of this. If you could replace a half stack with one trip to the car would you do it?

What if you bought 2 (1x15 and 2x10) and worked out a bi-amp setup with them. That would still be pretty easy and light!

I am just anxious for them to get in stores and reviewed.

I think they have a class D amp in them. I am not an electronics guru, but I think that is how they are able to keep them so light.

On Ampeg's official site they list them as 'coming soon.' Not soon enough! :hyper: I like many others eagerly await.
I did some surfing last night and found that they're listed as in-stock on some Canadian sites like lamusic. Needless to say, I sent them emails to figure out if that was in fact true.

I had a BA500, and got rid of it. It didn't have the tube preamp, and it sounded like, well, a solid state bass amp. The Mesa hybrids have multiple stage tube preamps, and got some really warm clean tone. I do like the all tube Ampegs, like the V4BH, or SVT, but for hybrids, Mesa rules.

According to the original schedule, they should be out soon, if not already.

I have my own reasons for wondering about that, since I did in fact work on them prior to the "Ampeg massacre". But I know that a big push was on to get them out.

However, I have no inside information now. So I don't know.

But there isn't any really good reason why they should not be out, except perhaps that the SLM group was working on them. I don't know how that work got parceled out after the SLM group was laid off. The project might have been pretty puzzling to people trying to take over in the middle without a solid transfer plan.

I talked to Sweetwater and they say April the amps are going to be in stock. I hope they are good! I want one so bad. I am going to put my federal free check up for it and some of my own cash to get the BA300/210. Looks like a sweet setup :-) When some one gets one or at least plays one please post a review ASAP for the rest of us who are drooling. If that amp for some reason doesn't get good reviews I am going to get the BA115HPT. I have tried one and like it. Has anyone used one and what do they think of that amp?

Wow, you mean they went from cool and futuristic looking to boring and dull? Sorry, but that plain boxy look looks too much like their current combos, which isn't doing it for me. BTW, I'm an Ampeg fan, so don't go there ;)

i've already pre-ordered the BA300/210 at SamAsh.com. im definately gonna post a review when i get the chance. IT LOOKS LIKE THE RELEASE DATE FOR THIS AMP IS MAY 10, 2008.

this peice will be complimenting my guitarist's new Krank Rev. Jr when it comes out this summer. Should be a fine sound for death metal. i cant wait to play on this thing. im tired of using the Toneport Gearbox for my simulated Ampeg SVT tone.

as far as the looks go, i dont realy care. as long as the sound quality is good. i kinda prefeer the newer, made-over version, though.

The Ampeg site now has the BA300 115 listed at 60 lbs. Yet. Sweetwater and Sam Ash have it at 40 lbs.

When I first saw these last year I wanted one just because it was so powerful and light. But. If it's 60 lbs. it kind of loses that appeal.

Anybody know if Ampeg changed anything on it? I can't imagine changing it to the point of increasing the weight 50%. Maybe the Ampeg site is wrong. :hmm:

For those interested, I just talked to a rep from Ampeg about the 20lb increase and this is what he had to say...

"The listed weight is 60 lbs on our spec sheet too. One thing that warranted this changed was we went from using a neo speaker to a conventional magnet. I found that the ferrite magnet speakers just sounded a bit more punchier than the neos. If you look at the specs on the 600s, they are lighter because we kept the neos on those. The only other speaker we could use that could handle that power would have been cast framed and that would have put the overall weight much higher on the 600s.
60 lbs for a 300 watt, tube preamp combo amp is still well under what most comparable amps are coming in at. I know that doesn't help you in this case but most other 300 watt combos are much heavier than that. Our BA210SP at 220 watts comes in at about 75 lbs."

so it sounds like it is 60lbs for sure. The weird thing is that the BA600 is now actually 10lbs LESS then the ba300. seems odd they would go that way.
