Sting (or 50' reissues) bass mods!

Invalid Link Removed offers a fully adjustable bridge that retrofits perfectly on '51-'56 P-Basses. I installed one on my 1956 P-Bass and I love it! I woulnd't have installed it if it wasn't 100% reversible.

Concerning roundwound strings, I found the Fender 8250 NPS strings (that's the set with the tapered E-string) work quite well with through-body bridges. On the other hand, on a '51-'56 P-Bass, flatwounds are kinda mandatory... I like Chromes and EB Cobalt Flats.

I had purchased it last year to set up a backup to my Fender CS bass that has a pair of these pickups in it, but have decided I don't really need the back up bass. The pickup is brand new, still in its plastic.

If any of you who purchased the now discontinued Wilkinson 2 swivel bridge as a replacement to your 51 reissue pbass bridge but have moved on to replace it with another bridge that works for you, it’d be interested in purchasing that 2swivel bridge from you. Pm me if you got one you’re willing to part with.

I always wonder about those 'thumb rests' on the high side: Are there some mutants in Cali ( . . . .well, that's a dumb question . . . . .) with a thumb where most people have their little finger ? ? ? ?

When it's on that side it's a tug bar, not a thumb rest. It's used for playing using your thumb, not resting it.

Alright! So, I decided to keep the bridge and pickups, but swap the jack and put some covers. Thanks for all the help and guidance. I know you guys love photos, so here you go

Swapped out the bent plate bridge for the babczic. So much easier to deal with and much more solid.

I've had m sting P since its first year of issue (2001?). It's pretty dinged up, but I replaced the pickup with a Seymour Duncan, added the bridge and pickup covers as well; oddly, according to our sound guy, the pickup cover appears to curb a slight hum. Kept the jack, never had a problem, and the bridge works fine. And, NO ONE has EVER commented on or disparaged the "Stinglay" in nearly twenty years of almost daily use onstage.
