As a side note: I believe the tuners G&L sells at its online store are compatible with most StingRay models as well, but I am not sure if they are lighter in weight than the stock ones. I don't know if those are simply rebranded Schaller BMLs, but they could be.

Check out this stunner!

Bought this 1995 body that had an early 2000's USA Stingray neck mounted to her. I'm not a fan of rosewood necks on Stingrays, so I tracked down a maple neck for her.

Body is a transitional period 1995 Stingray with the transition "Flea Bridge", neck plate, battery cover, 2 band EQ, etc. Neck is a 2007 USA.

Bass is really light at 8.5 lbs. Personally, I prefer the 2 band pre over the 3 band on a ray and this one sings. No dead-spot on the D&G strings (that many Stingrays are plagued with). I'm a happy camper.

Personally, I'm digging the clear guard.

With the translucent finish showing off the wood grain I wouldn't use anything but that clear pickguard on it. Gorgeous bass you got there!

Surprised me that USA SR use similar tuning machine which found on china made Squier CV60P.

Why would that surprise you? Squier is a Fender copy. Tuners looking a like does mean they are built to the same standard or use the same materials.

Surprise because those tuning machine are fairly cheap in price. Lot different than regular Musicman Stingray tuning machine.

I agree, the bass is gorgeous, but I am surprised to see tuning machines without the musicman guys stamped on them. @Quadzilla, do you know if they were swapped out at some point?

Edit: I just noticed my 2005 EBMM SUB bass (the MIA SUB, not the S.U.B. line from SBMM) used non-stamped tuning machines, so go figure.

The stems on the tuning machines are also longer than the MusicMan stamped Schallers of that period. I changed mine out on an SR5 for lighter weight Hipshots (HB1) and the stems are a little longer also. They are stamped as Hipshots though.

I honestly didn't even notice that the person that sold me the neck had swapped the tuners. These stay in tune and turn well, but are quite heavy. I'll look for a set of OEM or go the Hipshot or Gotoh route. Thanks for catching that guys.

Awesome, that looks amazing! Good move on the clear gaurd, for finishes like that I think they look great! I had one on a blue Dawn Mist Sterling and it really makes it pop. Clear is the only way!

The US Music Man basses (maybe not Bongos) all use the same tuners, and they're FANTASTIC. I'm pretty sure Schaller makes them in Germany, and regardless of the company I know that the import tuners are why they had to change to the 'California Heritage' black bear logo on the back of the headstock instead of 'Made in San Luis Obispo', since a component of their instruments was in fact not made in USA.

In short, they're similar in shape alone. Of course they'd be the same shape as classic Fender tuners, the original Music Man basses were designed by Leo Fender in the 70s.

Congratulations! It's a beautiful bass made out of a beautiful piece of wood. I usually don't like clear pickguards, but in this case I think it's the only reasonable choice.
