Stingray Special go to EQ setting

I was playing around with the EQ on my Stingray Special 4H and thought I would mess around with my amp EQ instead. I have a fender Rumble 100. I found that if I keep everything flat except low mids at 10 o’clock and high mids at 2 o’clock I get a really great stingray tone that seems more punchy. Now if I EQ the stingray I can get it more aggressive. Still experimenting and things may change but liking it so far.

I’m starting to really think with my amp anyways there is too much low mids with the Stingray special. As soon as I dial away some of them the bass becomes less boomy and the sound tightens up. Can anyone else confirm this with your amp?

It stands to reason that would be the case. I just tried it with my Special and my MarkBass amp, and it's true. I don't think it's a failure with the bass. In fact, EBMM voiced the instrument to have a wider spectrum of tones. You can always dial it out. With the previous StingRays, I had a hard time dialing *in* low mids. Maybe it's an individual taste thing.

I did not think the Specials paired well with my Rumble or my GK. I moved on to MarkBass and that was a great pairing. Then I went with Aguilar and it was even better.

Genzler magellan 800 and NU 2X12 for my bday present to myself this year. I put it off the past 2 years getting my specials. Can't wait.

Only had mine about 3-4 weeks now, but I adjust the EQ depending on pickup position, which for me I use all except 5 currently. Pos. 4 is great for fingerstyle so I bump B/T and cut M a tad. For Pos. 3 I bump T and cut M and leave B flat. Pos. 2-1 I cut T, boost M & B a bit. Getting the hang of it though. I love, love the 18V pre compared to the 9V, just IMO.
