Stolen Basses In Los Angeles

My music room was broken into last night and several basses were stolen, as well as a couple of guitars. LA TB'ers, please direct message me if you encounter any of these:

77 Precision
Custom fiesta red Jazz
Custom Fretless
Custom gold Precision
Custom Geddy Lee Jazz
85 Sunburst Jazz bass
87 Gibson Bass IV

Only the 77 Precision and the Gibson were stock. Everything else is can be recreated, I guess, with a boatload of time, effort, and expense.

That’s bad! Ten years ago I was in Westchester next to LAX renting a room with Loyola Marymount kids staging my exit from my hometown LA. Found two kids breaking into my room and beat the poopie out of them with a baseball bat that was by the front door.
Recovery may take months as the purloined goods work there way through to pawn shops and resale. Set up a Craigslist scan and run it every couple of days, for all of SoCal areas including the desert communities (Joshua Tree for instance).

Very sorry about your situation I know exactly what your going thru I lived in San Dimas, California in 83' and my 1980 Fender Precision and my guitarist 1981 Dean Z blueburst was stolen and they were never recovered so we had to move on, I hope your situation will prevail.

I suggest you contact Guitar Center, plus Trutone Music, Marina Music Center, Boulevard Music, McCabe's Guitar Shop, and the few shops in L.A that deal in high end vintage basses. There is one in the Valley but I cannot remember then name, only deals in high end vintage Fenders. Good chance at least one of your bases will show up at one of those places. That fretless is going to be very easy to spot, since there are almost no fretless for sale right now in L.A.

If they take them to a pawn shop I think the law here now requires that the pawn shop notify or check with the police to see if stolen, if proof of purchase cannot be provided, for high value items. Of course you should file a police report, with pictures.

If you haven’t already, maybe post similar ads in all the larger Craigslists. Especially those here in both Northern and Southern California. Include Nevada and Arizona too.

Sorry to hear that, I got my case stolen (from church!) and can't imagine what it would be missing just one instrument.
It is after the fact but think about insuring your instruments.

There might already be coverage by homeowners or renters policies. Worth checking those if they already exist.

Oh, that's great. She loses her basses and now you make her paranoid about trusting her friends too? Jeez. This is L.A., we have no law here. People stake you out and wait for an opportunity when you aren't home. I'm in an apartment, 700 units, and have had my door marked by a "spotter" noting that someone was home and watching TV. If they could hear my bass in the hallway they probably would have marked that down too.
