stomp box order?

Let me start by saying I'm a seasoned bass player but a real newbie at using effects. I've always liked a clean sound. A current project band I'm working with has given has provided me with some "creative space" and I've been playing around with some effects. I use them very selectively but would like to know what the correct order should be in the chain.

For years I've used a BBE Sonic Stomp and BBE Opto Stomp but I'd like to employ a Big Muff Pi (the new one) and a little Chorus from time to time. I've also been messing around with a Boss distortion box.

Thoughts?

generally overdrives/distortions/octaves/pitch shifts go towards the begining, and reverbs/delays go towards the end, but other than that, go to town and experiment with order and see what works for you.

But these or just generalizations. For example, I like having a delay going into filters.
