Hey all! My band has gotten themselves in a bit of a predicament when it comes to practice.
Last year my drummer moved in to a place with a couple of friends, with a basement that was perfect for us for band practice. We are a 3-piece and he had more than enough room for his kit, ourselves, practice amps/and even mics and PA's. It was a situation that I have not had since college.
However, last fall his roommate got a dog and then laid down the law that as long as the dog is in the house, we could not practice because his dog "didn't like it". Mind you, he moved in knowing a drum set would be there and lived there nearly 6 months before his dog came into the picture. My drummer and his other roomate also had dogs before they moved in and all agreed the drums and band practice were fine... Awkward convos between my drummer and his roommate who we all love aside, we decided to just take band practice to my guitarists house where my dummer played on an e-kit. This was not ideal but it got the job done. However he was in a townhouse which meant 7pm on a Thursday is not cool to plug in vocals and play super loud.
We are starting to ramp up to get ready to play shows and while there are several places you can go to rent rehearsal space, we want something more permanent. Our drummer is moving to a new place this summer but unfortunately there is no basement nor is there an area in the house that would realistically work for a drum set.
I know that storage units are a good alternative and we are willing to use them as a practice space. However I know not all allow it nor are they suitable due to climate control, noise ordinances, and power inside the unit. Has anyone here used one in the Washington DC area? Preferably in the Falls Church/Arlington/Alexandria/DC range.
