Any stores (USA) that will ship Fender basses to Australia?

None to my knowledge will do it legally. Fender protects it's national distributors by having conditions on where they ship to. I'm from down under too and I know how hard the prices suck sometimes I mean $1700 for an american standard jazz is just a bit too much. Musicman also doesn't allow international shipping. It blows because MMs start at $2000 Aud even whenthe exchange is good.

Short of buying used (stores can ship used items internationally) or going to the US yourself or find a seller on TB that will ship intl. there's not much that you can do. I ended up going to the states and buying used from a TBer and picked up a nice AV 62 P for $900, saving a cool $1100.

But how much did the plane ride and hotel cost you?

Correct that dealers, in most cases can't sell new instruments overseas, but they can sell used ones.

I was originally here to visit my family and the bass was just a bonus. I'm not saying to go to the states for the express purpose of buying gear. But if you're ever in the country. You might as well. Even if you don't like it you could flip it in Australia for almost double what you bought it for, depending on the exchange.

Consider using a shopping helper service like myus.com. That way you will be able to ship even from US-only stores.
