My goal is to establish a more solid foundation than note for note copying has provided me. With that in mind I thought I’d concentrate on basic root/five movements within simpler progressions, like what you might hear in bluegrass or country. From there I’m figuring on letting my ear & creativity guide me into more interesting territory, better prepared fundamentally. I’m currently working through the Roger Filliberto books, again, to strengthen my basics, with Ed Friedland’s “Walking Bass” waiting in the wings. Any other suggestions beyond the Mel Bay Bluegrass books? Thanks.
