Flats

I have 5 bases.
I buy instruments, I keep them.
Hate losing money , and often it may sit ,but will eventually get used again for something or even for some while.

I want to set one up with flats , one with tapes, one or more with standard nickle rounds. Don’t care for stainless. Or at least I have not tried them in a long while.

*EBMM 5 , going to leave it stock, it is about 6 months old.

*G&L L2000 USA. HOT HOT HOT , it took me a long time to get this thing dialed in and pickups lowered enough. Still HOT. Just about gave up lol

*Fender Vintage II 1960 P.

Squier special run J not sure what it is , satin seafoam green , going to drop a j retro or similar in , leave pickups as is.

* Rickenbacker 4003 2017 model.
I use 3 basses to cover everything. One day perhaps a hollow with flats and a stingray with rounds will get added. I have yet to see a scenario where at least 1 of the 3 did not solidly bring the goods

1) Player Series P bass with flats.
--Classic P bass thump.. Add the foam too when called for

2) Player series Jazz with rounds
--Bright modern tone, the slap bass etc.

3) Yamaha TRBX 605
--Active, very flexible eq, 5er, grindy humbucker tones

La Bella Gold Flats
La Bella Gold White Nylon
La Bella Copper White Nylon
Warwick Tapewound Bronze.

All these have reduced output, due to their outermost metal wrap not being magnetically active. Try them.
Ah: ditto for the GHS Pressurewound Bronze.

Voted carrots because they are delicious and nutritious and because I've never tried flats for longer than a couple minutes plunking on someone else's bass. But I believe you can put flats on anything you want and as long as it's set up well you'll get a good tone. I've heard everything from thumpy to really crunchy from guys playing flats. Personally I'm running DR, Dean Markley, Dunlop and Rotosound on my 4 main basses with Labella on a project bass. All stainless rounds because that's what I like.

I just got a used L-2000 today, and the owner strung it with half-rounds. I love the way those feel, but don’t like how they sound. The same thing happened with my Fender American P Deluxe - it was strung with flats when I got it.

So for the most part I’m not a flats guy! I use DR DDT’s on my P and Warwick Corvette, D’Addario NYXLs on my G&L Fallout Tribute, and Stringjoys on my Ibanez SR655E. Can’t go wrong with any of those really.
