I think at this point in my playing, this is where I am at too.
Yup, I guess that's what I wound up doing...
The recordings we made definitely let me know that at the tuning we're asked to use, the bass needed a little heavier strings. And an action set-up to accommodate those strings and tuning. I tracked that bass on some demos I'm in the middle of, transposing the tracks down a 1/2 step. The bass definitely sounds better that that tuning with the set-up now. I'm leaving the tracks on the band recording as they are because those tracks were for critiquing the band's playing and they need to stand as they are, the few warts and all....
All I was saying in the original post is that I found myself really liking the heavier strings as they were my go-to strings in the past.
But in the following days, I've come to realize that the lighter-gauge strings on my normally-tuned bass work fine and are better for my 63-year-old hands. I spent a good deal of time playing both basses comparing the feel of both basses. They are a little different, but I can roll with them as they are and will continue to do so.
