String ID - 38" winding, roundwound, brass ball ends, no silk etc

45-65-85-105 no step down on the G string. These came on a Vintage Precision bass that I received from the son of the longtime owner - he had no knowledge of what kind of strings his dad favored and I kinda like them! I don't know how to tell if they are nickel, hex core, stainless, round core etc. The winding step down is around the post on the E string.

Based on the winding length and no silk, DR is a good possibility, as already mentioned above.

Hex core or round core... You would have to take a magnifying glass and have a close look at the core wire around the ball end. They do appear to be nickel based on the shiny silvery color. So, if hex core, maybe Nickel Lo-Riders; if round core, possibly the Sunbeams.

That would be within the margin of error, IMO

I'd start with DR Stainless Lo-Riders once these start to get worn out. If they are DR strings, be prepared to wait for a while

When you measured their length, did you include the ball end?

I do have a couple of new sets of DR strings at home. I'll try and see how they would measure.

Do keep in mind, though, when a string is tuned to up to pitch, it does stretch a little. So, it's very possible a string that's 37.75" can stretch to 38".

I just measured a brand new Nickel Lo-Rider .100. It's exactly 37.75" from the top of the ball end to the first taper like it's supposed to be according to DR's specs. Again, this is brand new out of the package before being installed and tuned up to pitch. I wouldn't be surprised if it measures 38" after being on a bass for a while.

I did use a magnifying glass and it appears the core is round. Was thinking of putting the same strings on my modded bronco bass with EMG Geezer Butler pickup if they are available in short scale

Round core... You will probably be looking at DR Sunbeams, which come in "short scale" with 33" winding length (ball end to taper).

I love this 70s P-100 guitar! If I owned one, I'd definitely get it a set of DR Lo rider nickel and no-load tone pots... and learn to play it with an aggressive pick!!! She looks like she was born for Punk Rock... just born a little too early...

Its a cool bass for sure - the body and pickup and pots sre dated 1962 and the neck and bridge are dated 1972 and clearly its been rode hard but boy she is sweet
