A piano player friend has these strings on a bass he has lying around. Wondering about the D and A strings, which seem to be from the same set (E is a spiro and the G is a Lenzner that I put on when the old G broke). As you can see the D and A have purple and yellow silks at the tailpiece. There may have been a purple spiral over the yellow at some point, but the silks are quite frayed. In the pegbox the D is yellow with a blue band and the A is black with a blue band. The D is plain gut and the A, most interesting to me, is flat wound (steel?) on gut. Flat wound gut strings are not too common, and are normally sort of fragile, so this one that has lasted for many years intrigues me. Low tension and the sound blends nicely with the plain gut.
