Wrapped with some kind of plastic...green at pegbox, yellow at tailpiece....

  2. This is an Eurosonic one.
There should be a ring at the end of the yellow silk.
    Black ring: medium gauge
    Green ring: light gauge
Red (or pink?) ring: extra-light gauge

As for the pegbox end, I see blue in your pic. (?)

As for the tone ID, you need to measure the gauge, as it's not color-coded... :(

    Taken form Bob G.' website:
    Code:
    String Gauges G D A E
    Ultra Light Tension .065 inches, 1.65mm .088 inches, 2.25mm .100 inches, 2.55mm .130 inches, 3.30mm
    Light Tension .069 inches, 1.75mm .094 inches, 2.40mm .110 inches, 2.80mm .142 inches, 3.60mm
    Medium Tension .075 inches, 1.90mm .098 inches, 2.50mm .122 inches, 3.10mm .150 inches, 3.80mm

    Try this: http://www.quinnviolins.com/stringidfier.htm

Now, back to the strings at hand. They definitely look like some kind of Eurosonic/Presto. I wonder if they are maybe an old set by Presto. Maybe the silks were different colors in the past?

  5. Presto and Eurosonic silk color coding is different.
