String spacing on 6...

I bought one of the Brice Prestige models from Rondo and overall, I was quite satisfied with the purchase.

However, there was one issue. The nut was cracked and a piece had broken off, so I asked for a replacement within the 1st year I owned it. They sent me one that they cut, which was cool, but the spacing just doesn't seem right. Look at these:

Does anyone see an issue with this or am I just being too sensitive.

If I wanted to replace it myself, where's a good site to find a nut like that for a 6er?

So, here's the measurements

Edge - 1/4" - C - 1/4" - G - 9/32" - D - 5/16" - A - 13/32" - B - 1/4" - Edge

I would think that they should be evenly spaced across the nut.

The challenge I will have is finding a black one that's wide enough.

I've emailed Rondo to see if they can get me a couple of blanks. The width is 2 1/4" and the widest blank they have at StewMac is 2 3/16", but it's white.

The search is on...

Interesting. I bought a Brice Z6 Natural Fretless from them (also a 6'er) a few weeks ago and had the exact same issue except mine was a brass nut. I thought I just got a fluke. I don't think you're too sensitive. I decided that it wasn't right and replaced the nut on mine. I used a blank of Micarta from StewMac and filed my own notches. It's bone white but it looks fine on the natural colored bass, and it plays fine too.

I took Musiclogic's advice and ordered the 24" piece of graphite bar stock. In parallel, I also guilted Kurt into sending me a blank that I could cut myself.

The 1st one came in cut right out of the box, it just had about an 1/8" piece break off in between the E and B. Couldn't stand looking at it.

They must be carving them by hand with poor direction...
