String Tension Question

If I were to put a set of long scale strings on a short scale bass, would the string tension be the same as if I were to use a short scale set ? Assuming the strings were the exact gauge of course.

Wouldn't the only difference be removing some of the length of the long scale string ?

Yeah string length shouldn't matter for tension, but you may run into trouble with the E string being too thick to wrap around the post very well. I put standard long scale Fender flats on my short scale viola bass and the thick part of the E partly wraps around the post. It's okay on my bass but your situation may not be.

The scale of the bass is the only scale that's pertinent. Long scale strings, once strung on a short scale bass, become short scale strings.

So yes, tension would be the same given the same gauge, brand and model.
