Strings For 57 AVRI

I had TI and now the Labellas 760FL and although they are close in tension this small difference is considerable. TI's A, D, G strings are better in
my opinion (tone-wise) but Labella E string has better definition. One thing I don't like about Labellas is that they are extremely smooth and sometimes
my fingers tips tend to slip when fretting but this could be because I have dry skin.

It's interesting how they give each bass a completely different character. I really like the LaBella Beatle bass flats too, but for other reasons. They really made my cheep Rogue VB100 (Hofner copy) come to life. I'm doing a total overhaul on that bass, though.

Like a lot of people I've tried different flats and variations of flats, ground wound and half rounds etc...but never really liked the way they sound and felt. I'm starting to come around to flats but it's taken a long time. These sound like a good transitional string, and I have a Jazz Bass that I like to keep round wounds on. I believe I'll give these a try.

I have GHS Precision flats on my "57 AVRI. They sound great. But I have La Bella's on another P-bass and they are also great sounding. Either way you can't go wrong. The '57 AVRI is a very nice bass, good luck with her. Keep the groove.

I had 57 AVRI that I still wish I had not sold, they are stunning instruments. I had best results with DR Sunbeams With that bass, they gave me big lows, complex grind/growl through the mids and sweet top end. They are also a really nice soft tension and feel beautiful under the fingers.

I want to thank everyone for their input. It is much appreciated. I am leaning toward trying a set of Labellas, still not sure. If I go with the Jamerson set will I need to work on the nut? Think I will go either all the way and try the Jamerson strings or low tension. I love TIs but already have them on a P and a jazz. I like Chromes also, that is what is on the 57 now. Just want to experiment a little.

You might need to do some nut work if you get the LaBella JJs. I used to have them on my bass. If you've previously strung up your bass for 110s then you should be fine. They're an awesome string and evenly balanced but you need to play it with a light touch. I remember getting blood blisters from digging in on those!

Some other suggestions:
DR Hi Beam Rounds: They've been my staple round wound string of choice for many years in gauges 50-110. They're very bright out of the box since they stainless steels. However, once they break in they're killer. The DRs are very musical sounding and easy on the fingers. They're also very flexible. I bend the low F on my bass all the time.

I have TI JF-344's on all my basses except one Fender Jazz - I wanted a different, brighter sound on that bass but not super high tension like with LaBellas, so I tried a set of DR Pure Blues 45-100's. I LOVE them! Not too bright and they have a nice medium tension.
