Strings for a Guild Acoustic Fretless

Greetings Bassplayers. Bought the Guild B240 EF lined fretless. Came with d’Darrio 80/20 prosper bronze rounds. It needs clear acrylic epoxy on the fretboard (I got a guy) and flat wounds. Guild is adamant that I will destroy the bass if I put Roto flats on it b/c of tension issues. Any of you have this Guild? Otherwise, what are you acoustic fretless players using?

The D'Addario EPBB170 set has over 180 lbs' tension when on a 34" bass: on your 30.75" Guild, tension is under 150lbs.
The Rotosound SM77 (40-60-80-100) has 178lbs of tension at 34", i.e. *less* than the D'Addario, and so will be on your acoustic (assuming you manage to install its low E at full-gauge on the tuning post).
Obviously, the short-scale (RS77S) and medium-scale (RS77M - they're identically made save for their full-gauge winding length: 32.25" and 35.25", respectively), being lighter-gauge (40-50-75-90), would be even deeper into the safe zone.

In short: avoid the heaviest-gauge Roto sets (RS77LD 45-105; RS77LE and SH77, both 50-110) and you'll be fine, regardless of what Guild says.

I really like the LaBella 750N Black tapes. I didn't notice much of a volume loss if any on my Earthwood. They have nice tone and feel so much better than the bronze to me.

I'd go with tapes also. I like Roto TruBass 88s
